Warren Mayor James Fouts recently attended what should have been a joyous occasion for the City of Warren’s 4th annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. ceremony.

Unfortunately, and as predicted, Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel and “friends” attempted to hijack this great ceremony to honor a Civil Rights Leader by releasing more vile, vitriolic, obviously fake recordings that are purported to be the Mayor of Warren.  The release of these audio files that coincidentally came out just before the City of Warren’s 4th annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Ceremony was a clear attempt to yet again distract the residents of the City of Warren from the real issues, and, to attempt to downplay the importance of Mayor Fouts’ major announcement regarding the appointment of Greg Murray to be the new Diversity Coordinator.

Greg Murray’s first effort will be toward helping our special needs population regarding accessibility, employment and understanding.  His other focus will be on Transportation.  Warren Mayor Jim Fouts has stated goal of including the rights of the special needs community into the U.S. Civil Rights Act.  The Mayor has always advocated that they deserve to have their rights protected by federal legislation, that way the special needs individuals can achieve the status that all Americans have, which is full protection of all their rights!

The release of fake audio recordings was clearly designed to distract from the Mayor’s all-inclusive efforts.  The media, which bombarded Warren Mayor Jim Fouts with questions all at once and allowed an agitator to shout over the Mayor! This tactic dishonors the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King  Jr., a man of peace.

During his time in office, Warren Mayor James Fouts has made unprecedented strides in inclusion such as, the Appointment of the first African American Department Head, the appointment of the first, second, third, fourth, fifth, and sixth African American members to the Downtown Development Authority.  The Mayor personally appointed Jocelyn Howard, who is currently serving as the chairperson of the City of Warren Planning Commission.  The City of Warren’s Planning Commission prides itself on having racially and ethnically diverse workforce, which includes members of the African American and the Middle Eastern communities.

The Mayor’s efforts were responsible for changing the image of Warren from “Fortress Warren”, promoted by the previous administration, to a more inclusive Warren. In fact, Warren Mayor James Fouts came up with the idea of diversity coordinator last summer with the intent of having a more diverse workforce in Warren.   The Mayor’s record of minority appointees continues to flourish with this most recent appointment of Greg Murray to be the first diversity coordinator in Macomb County and Warren.

Lastly, it is important to again address the concerns of fake news and efforts to cloud the real issues with the release of a phony manufactured tape, again, in an attempt to distract Warren Residents from Mayor Fouts’ outstanding record as an elected official.

Clearly, the media’s zeal for sensationalism in an attempt to maximize advertising revenue were all too eager to stamped on the Mayor’s record, and sadly, trampled on the musical instruments of the Renaissance High School Quintet, and may have done some damage.

Shame on the media and shame on Mark Hackel for this transparent attempt at character assassination and blatant disregard for civil public discourse.
