Warren Schedules Informational Meeting November 29 for Churches to Prevent Mass Shooting

Warren Mayor Jim Fouts and Police Commissioner Bill Dwyer have scheduled a meeting with church leaders to discuss preventative measures on mass shooting.

The meeting will be held Wednesday, November 29 at 1 p.m. in the first-floor conference room in city hall.

“We need to ensure the safety of churchgoers by making recommendations that will prevent tragedies like the one that occurred November 5 at the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, Texas,” said Mayor Fouts.

“Most importantly, any kind of threat or potential violent behavior must be taken seriously.”

Dwyer said police personnel will distribute information regarding active shooter response and other emergencies that may occur in churches.

“Our police will also provide a questionnaire to church leaders so a tailored response plan specific to each church can be created,” said Police Commissioner Dwyer.

Mayor James Fouts said “prevention means alertness and common-sense strategies and our police can be helpful with recommendations.”
