The City of Warren Celebrates Black History Month February 28 With The Montford Point Marines.
The City of Warren will celebrate Black History Month Wednesday, February 28 1-3 p.m. on the first floor of City Hall featuring the Montford Point Marines. The group was formed to integrate the U.S. Marines in 1942.
Presenter will be retired Sergeant Major Eugene Owens, USMC, who is Past Commandant and Current Paymaster for Detachment #158 (Detroit) of the National Montford Point Marine Association, Inc. Owens served in the Marines from 1965 – 1991, and also served 28 years with the Detroit Police Department, retiring at the rank of Sergeant.
